Community Support
The Members of the Maryvale Friendly Society are part of the community and many of them donate their time and labour to help community organisations, The Society recognises that it also has an obligation to help these organisations — so they can continue to help those in need in the community.For many years the Society has set aside a small portion of its funds for community support and has made donations to many worthy causes, including those listed below;
- Lifeline Gippsland Inc.
- Latrobe Valley Palliative Care
- St John's Ambulance
- Salvation Army
- Maryvale Junior Fire Brigade
The Society has also supported public appeals for assistance such as the 2004 Tsunami Appeal for Aceh. The Society provided funds to local volunteer Sara Nalder, who subsequently worked in Aceh for more than 4 years, with a national relief organisation.
The Society made a special effort during the 2009 Bushfires to ensure that our affected Members and their Families were given extra assistance during the aftermath.
